Badrinath, one of the most famous pilgrimage sites of Hindus amongst "Char Dhams", is located at approximately 355Kms from Roorkee. The Badrinath temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, in its Nar- Narayana state, which means the man (Nar) meets the divine (Narayana) here. Badrinath is situated in the Himalayan range of Garhwal Hills (Uttarakhand). Almost at the height of 10,248 feet, the town depicts a combination of picturesque locations and spirituality. As per history, in the 19th century Adi Shankracharya found the idol of Badrinarayan in Alakhnanda river, which inspired him to enshrine and serve the deity.

Situated around 350 Kms from Roorkee, Hemkund Sahib is a Sikh pilgrim where the tenth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, is believed to have meditated for years. At an elevation of 4,329 mts above the sea level at Hemkund Sahib, the Himalayan range of Uttrakhand borders Tibet and Nepal. The literal meaning of Hemkund is "Lake of Snow" and justifying its literal meaning, Hemkund Sahibs vicinity is adorned with dense forest, numerous waterfalls and a glacial lake surrounded by seven mountain peaks. The vicinity of the Gurudwara views a very famous Laxman Temple too.
Located at 320 Kms from Roorkee and at a height of 13,200 ft, Gomukh, the terminus or the snout of Gangotri Glacier, is the originating point for Bhagirathi River. The presence of Bhagirati River is said to be very notorious and speedy in this region. Scattered pieces of glacier snow can be viewed around the snout. The literal meaning of Gomukh is "Mouth of Cow "and since the snout appears like the mouth of the cow, it became a place of worship for many Hindu pilgrims.

The Surkanda Devi temple makes for another apt choice for an enticing and exciting day trip from Motel Polaris, Rorkee. It was built by Ibrahim Lodhi and is dedicated to the Sufi saint of the Chisti order, Alauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir Kaliyari.
